Last night, S and I opened our first bottle of Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout. I figured we should try at least one of our bottles fresh. I was impressed with the thick and creamy mouthfeel combining prominent coffee, bourbon and dark chocolate while finishing with sweet maple syrup. Overall, a really delicious beer that was worth the wait.
I acquired six bottles of Kern River Citra DIPA through trade and the beer definitely exceeded my expectations. It initially pours a deep golden color and the nose is full of tropical fruits. The taste follows the nose with lots of grapefruit, pine, and mango. It has a creamy mouthfeel, finishing refreshingly dry with a nice aggressive floral bite. Overall, Kern River Citra ranks right up there with Pliny as the best DIPAs.
